Healthy Weight Support
Excess weight puts extra strain on your dog or cat's joints, heart, and pancreas. We calculate accurate daily calorie targets and portion guidance that keep your pet satisfied and active.
Therapeutic & Prescription Diets
Specialized veterinary diets help manage chronic conditions including kidney illness, feline urinary crystal prevention, liver support, gastrointestinal sensitivity, and food allergies.
Life-Stage Specific Nutrition
A growing puppy or kitten needs completely different mineral and caloric ratios than an adult dog or an aging senior cat. We guide you through smooth, safe dietary transitions at every milestone.
What Happens During a Consultation
Diet & Routine Review
We review your pet's current brand, wet/dry ratio, portion sizes, treats, and any table foods they enjoy.
Body Condition Scoring
Our doctor assesses your pet's body condition score (BCS), muscle tone, coat health, and hydration level.
Custom Feeding Plan
You receive exact daily gram or cup recommendations, treat boundaries, and trusted food options.
Follow-Up Weigh-Ins
Complimentary progress weigh-ins allow us to fine-tune portions as your companion approaches their ideal target weight.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my pet is overweight?
You should be able to feel your pet's ribs easily without pressing hard through a thick layer of fat, and they should have a visible waistline when viewed from above. Our doctor will score their body condition during the visit.
Can I feed my dog or cat a homemade diet?
Homemade diets must be carefully formulated to prevent serious vitamin and amino acid deficiencies (such as taurine deficiency in cats). We can provide balanced recipes or recommend veterinary-approved commercial alternatives.
How should I switch my pet to a new food?
Always transition slowly over 7 to 10 days by mixing increasing amounts of the new food into their current food (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) to give their digestive system time to adjust.
Do you carry prescription diets at Montrose Pet Clinic?
Yes, we supply veterinary-exclusive therapeutic foods and can order specific medical formulations to support your companion's treatment plan.
